Encourage Yourself In the Lord
Before David was King of Israel he faced some extraordinary challenges. One time he and his army returned from the battleground to find their homes burnt to the ground and families were missing. The men were so filled with horror over what had been stolen they wept with no hope. But David was different. Although filled with great sorrow, he chose to encourage himself so he could do something about it.
“David was greatly distressed…the souls of them all were bitterly grieved, each man for his sons and daughters. But David encouraged and strengthened himself in the Lord his God.” (1 Sam 30:6 AMP) How did he do that? He followed the timeless principle God uses to help us receive salvation today. He believed in his heart and spoke with his mouth. The Word says, “…if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.” (Romans 10:9-10)
David spoke aloud to himself of how faithful and good God is. He encouraged himself with truth out loud. As he spoke, his faith grew. As His faith grew so did his vision of victory.
When we are facing giant odds that overshadow our view of victory we must pick ourselves up and look to Him and His Word. God responds to faith not fear, belief more than tears of sorrow.
If you make a habit of speaking these verses out loud declaring them to be true your faith will rise, hope will grow allowing God to produce a victorious image of Jesus inside your heart for your every need.
Keep your eyes on Jesus!
He is your Victory.
